Twixmas the SRC Way

Running is a great way to burn off Christmas excesses and three Sidmouth Running Club members did just that!  Inspired by junior leaders Donna and Grahame Womersley-Westlake who ran the route last year, the intrepid trio set off in the dark at 7.30am from Uplyme to run the East Devon Way.  Mighty Greens Louise Dalton, Mark Andow and Adrian Harris encountered boggy fields, mud aplenty and 4,300 feet of elevation as they headed to Exmouth,37.6 miles away. They arrived before dark and having ran for 8.47 hours were ready for more festive treats!

The Monday club night runners set a new record on December 30th, the shortest run ever .22 miles from the flagpole on the seafront to The Bedford Hotel for a festive drink or two!  Normal service has now resumed including the popular beginners course and junior sessions.

The Final Countdown 10k race was the perfect way to see off 2024 especially as it is held in Sidmouth. Organised by Winding Paths the steep ascent from the seafront to the top of Peak Hill is soon forgotten as you take in the stunning views before heading inland running around Muttersmoor before heading back down to the finish line.  Mighty Green Bob Huntington had an incredible run, first male SRC to finish in 59:15, first in his age category MV65. Bob is in training for his first marathon in May raising money and awareness for the Exeter City Community Trust, hence the running vest. Christine Farnham was the first female SRC to finish in 1:04:48 with sister Karen seconds behind in 1:05:11.  It was great to have the support of the Mighty Greens who were marshalling and the magnificent finishers medal made the tough start all worthwhile!

Results: Bob Huntington 59:15, Christine Farnham 11:04:48, Karen Farnham 1:05:11, Emily Hardingham 1:08:04, Brigid McEleney-Smith 1:10:07, Beccy Johnson 1:20:18, Alexa Baker 1:20:19, Deb Cawthera 1:2045, Don Cawthera 1:20:47

Sidmouth Running Club are delighted to see their very own Marion Johnson feature in February’s issue of Runner’s World magazine.  The Mighty Green is linked to the cover story about Collette O’Hagan who at age 75 has achieved her 1000th marathon! Marion, age 76, who ran her first marathon in London last year in 6:09:15 is ranked 10th in the UK in her age group and 72nd globally. Marion is not only a running inspiration, she throws herself into every club activity from helping with the junior group to attending strength and conditioning classes and always with a smile. A very well deserved accolade Marion.
