Staying Calm Against The Feighan Fury

Four Sidmouth Running Club juniors plus parents including leaders Donna and Grahame Womersley-Westlake travelled to Templeton near Tiverton on Sunday to take part in the Feighan Fury. The event is organised by South West Road Runners and the Mighty Greens all took part in the 5k trail race. The steep incline to the finish line did not deter 10 year old Lucas Withecombe, he finished in 4th place out of a field of 70 runners in 27:11, leaving his mum, SRC’s Polly Iddon, to finish in a very respectable 14th place in 30:58. Theo Opie, aged 10, also had a cracking run on top of getting a new PB, 24:11, at Haldon park run the day before. Theo finished in 10th place, a second ahead of his dad in 29:03. Christopher Witkowski, aged 12, had a huge smile on his face as he crossed the finish line in 35:16 to great cheers from his parents. Amelia Womersley, aged 9, knocked an amazing 7 minutes off last year’s course time finishing in 44:16, with dad Grahame finishing seconds behind her and mum Donna finishing in 52:13 after a slight diversion.

Junior Marcus Wieffer also had a fantastic park run at Cranbrook where he smashed his course PB, now 25:35.  MG Sarah Clapham was also there and came first in her age category.  There were four representatives at each of Greendale, Yasmin Salter, Ali Williams, Janice Ranson, and Clive Gilbert, and Seaton, Steve Saunders, Charles Keen, Christie Ward, and John Sharples; Julia Haddrell was at Exmouth. Running his first UK parkrun since 21st December, Derek took advantage of the jet lag induced early morning start to make a dash along the coast to Bournemouth. Debbie & Don Cawthera ticked off another of their “Love Island” challenge by visiting Mersea – still to do Anglesey and Skye!
