What do Sidmouth Running Club juniors enjoy more than running? Running in dark woods trying to keep ahead of the unleashed zombies! The juniors took part in Purple Geckos’ Haldon Hallowe’en Twilight Run on Friday evening, a great way to start half term.
SRC’s Reuben Johnson took part in the 2.5k fun run and stormed home in 16:22, first to finish in a field of 47. There is no doubting he is mighty green marathon runner Marion Johnsons’ grandson!
There were 7 SRC juniors taking part in the Running Dead 5k event out of a total of 23 juniors and they finished in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th male place and 5th and 9th girl place. Not only that, SRC junior Clay Vickery finished in 9th place overall, 31.11, in a field of 126 adult and junior runners, with his twin brother Isaac seconds behind in 31:32.
Emily Hardingham represented the club in the Running Dead 10K race and finished in 1:10:29, 34th in a field of 84.
Representing the club further afield, Becky Knapman took part in the Eden Half marathon last weekend. Despite the challenging route through areas of spectacular mining heritage and beautiful countryside landscapes Becky finished in 2:42:31 and thoroughly enjoyed her fee pasty and beer afterwards.
Twenty two Mighty Greens enjoyed sunny conditions at park runs too and were found at Cranbrook, Exmouth, Seaton, Ashington, Frogmary Green farm, Melton Mowbray, and the new PR venue Simmonds Park, Okehampton. Club secretary Cheryl Boulton knocked 2 minutes off her PB, finishing the Exmouth park run in 26:42-was this because she was trying to keep up with her visiting nephew who finished in 20:18?! Mighty Greens Roger Worthington and Ann Cole were also celebrating new PBs, 22:46 and 32:27 respectively.
The Sunday runs are back giving the runners an opportunity to get time on their feet and prepare for the higher mileage events coming up. Richard King led this week under a clear blue sky taking in three trig points in preparation for the four trigs event next February.
